This month’s sushi craving was satisfied with Komodo. Komodo Dallas is one of three U.S. locations (the others being in Miami and Las Vegas), and I had to see if the hype was legit or too good to be true. I wanted to try the menu and see how it compares to Nobu and Uchi, its main competitors in Dallas.
Ambiance – Dark, sultry, and sexy
The décor features a modern design that perfectly matches the sexy vibe and, finally, gives the girls an opportunity to wear that new dress you’ve been saving.
We sat in the middle of the restaurant, right behind the bar, and had a great view for people watching. The bar also looked like a lovely option for a solo date.
The crowd was mixed with people of all ages and backgrounds. It’s clearly a special occasion restaurant, there were multiple birthday and big party tables seated throughout the night.
Service – Great
Our waiter, Rett, was fantastic. He knew the menu well and took the time to walk us through everything.
Here’s what I ate:
Drinks:
Lavender Haze – A beautiful purple hue and presentation. The combo of lychee and lavender hibiscus was new to me and didn’t disappoint. 10/10
Ginger Passionfruit Mule – Another hit!
Apps:
Complimentary Cucumber Salad – Way better than expected! 8/10
Thai Beef Jerky – Sweet, sour, and savory. The beef was tender but the sauce made the dish, IMO. 7/10
Dim Sum:
Money Bag – 10/10. Juicy and bursting with flavor. A menu must-order.
Crispy Shrimp & King Crab Har Gow – Spectacular presentation. the eye eats first with this dish. A little hard to fit in your mouth, but crispy enough not to care. The Fresno pepper on top balanced the sweet and savory seafood filling beautifully. 9/10
Sashimi:
Truffle Honey Salmon – Amazing. The sauce was delicate and flavorful, but didn’t overpower the fish with truffle. This rivals the truffle salmon sashimi at Nobu if you're familiar with that.m 11/10
Maki:
Surf & Turf – Better than expected. Wagyu never steers me wrong, especially when paired with crispy shrimp tempura. (I dipped this in the leftover sauce from the salmon because it was that good. Irresistible.) 8/10
Main Dishes:
King Crab Lo Mein – This dish was EVERYTHING. Perfect, silky sauce-to-noodle ratio with generous chunks of crab to top off the dish. It was gone in minutes.
Dessert (AKA my second drink):
Another round of the Lavender Haze to top things off.
Final Thoughts:
Komodo was the perfect spot for an elevated night out. We had the best time and could’ve stayed all night— if the money had lasted that long. There was also something on the menu for everyone.
I know this restaurant has a long-standing reputation as one of Dallas’ hot spots for a late-night dinner (or even some club action, too), and now I understand why.
Getting dressed up to eat a dinner like this was the perfect Friday evening. By the end of the night, I wasn’t just full, I was fulfilled. Komodo gave us exactly what we needed.
