Mixed feelings on this one. But I’ll give credit where it’s due. I went with two friends so we were able to order a spread and try a bite of everything. Here’s the breakdown of my experience:
The Breakdown
Menu: Could’ve been better organized and was a little difficult to absorb.
Seating: Surprisingly quick, even on Valentine’s weekend (Saturday).
Ambiance: Great DJ, chatty crowd with an upbeat energy and an elevated casual dress code.
Service: Solid, friendly, no complaints.
Food: Good overall. Some hits, some just okay. Creative drink menu!
Cost: A bit pricier than expected.
Cleanliness: I had to send back two dirty champagne glasses. Side eye.
Highlight: The waffle selection. Damn.
Vibe: Attracts middle-aged aunties and uncs but manages to stay trendy.
Concept: Elevated Southern brunch, but not necessarily refined. Think creative, trendy twists on classics. Dishes like the jerk lamb chops and fried lobster bites add a fun, crowd-pleasing flair.
What We Ate
Fried Catfish- Good crust!
Cinnamon Roll Waffles – Good, but could’ve been executed better. The cinnamon sugar topping was a little grainy. The dish would be better if the cinnamon sauce was more prevalent.
Biscoff Waffles- HEAVEN. But very sweet.
Peach Cobbler Waffles – My personal fave, better than expected.
Fried Lobster Bites – Good, not mind-blowing, but the remoulade sauce was solid and paired well.
Crab Cake – A decently good appetizer. The single portion of crab cake, but the large pieces of lump crab were legit.
Bottle of Champagne – For mimosas, of course.
Final Thoughts
This spot gets the job done. It’s great for weekend birthday brunches, with a menu that’ll satisfy the whole group. The mimosa tower and music makes sure that the vibe will always be fun. This restaurant is perfect to take your single, lit auntie and her friends when they drop in town.
But if I’m being honest, those two dirty glasses (and some questionable floaters in the OJ) left a lasting impression—and not in a good way. I’m not the target audience for this kind of spot, (I prefer more curation and attention to detail in a restaurant. Doesnt matter if its a dive or fine dining) but there’s a lot of people who’d love it here. For me, it’s a 6.5/10.
Still, with five locations across the U.S., Kitchen + Kocktails has already proven itself as a crowd favorite. Try it and see for yourself.
